“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” (Philippians 4:8)

The human brain is like no other. Consider these facts about the brain taken from a website called stumblerz. The brain weighs about 3 pounds and the size of a large grapefruit. It is about 78% water. The brain processes about 70,000 thoughts per day. Brain energy could power a 25-watt bulb. The brain tells your body what to do while you are conscious or not. The most fascinating thing about the brain is that things such as love, sadness, fear, and anger are all products of the thinking process of the brain. God created us with the capacity to think and it is our thoughts that drive us to achieve great things or accomplish very little. The thoughts we have will determine what things are important to us and how we react to the world around us. God desires that we have an abundant life in Christ, but we must think on the right things to experience it the way God intended.

The verse above reminds us that if we are to live a holy, righteous life in Christ, we must think on the right things. We must think on those things that are valuable and praiseworthy to God. If you find yourself in a constant or repeated state of anxiety, depression, rebellion, defiance, or sinful living, it is because you have let your thoughts control you instead of you controlling your thoughts. You and I can choose how we will think about our current situation, predicament, or achievement. Read the above verse again with the understanding that experiencing the good things in life starts with a thought.
